Parents log on to watch children play

Cindy Bornemann, founder and president of the Discovery Isle Child Development
Center near the Poway Business Park, says her new "GuardianCam Internet Viewing
System" ---- by which parents are able to log on from work or home to check on how
their child's day is going ---- is getting lots of attention and kudos from her
clientele.
"We're the first to have this so far, and it's only been out a short time, but it's
really generated a lot of interest," says Cindy. "Any parent with access to a computer
and modem will have the chance to view their child's activities day-to-day."
There are two centers in addition to the Poway location, one in San Marcos and
one in Carlsbad. They were created to provide academic and developmentally-based
curriculum alternated with play activities. The Poway facility offers three programs
---- infants, toddlers, and preschoolers ---- and Cindy says a large part of her
time is spent in selecting "career teachers."
"This is not a glorified baby-sitting service," she said.
Most of the staff have degrees in early childhood education, and work continuously
with the children in the 20,000-square-foot facility, teaching age-appropriate curriculum
in pre-reading, pre-math, art, science, health and safety, cooking and dramatic
arts.
And now, thanks to new computer technology, parents who feel the need to check
up on their child's progress at the center can do it with the click of a mouse.
Discovery Isle's Web site, www.discoveryisle.com, requires no special software
and has plenty of security to ensure privacy.
"Everyone has their own private password, and can even control what they want
other family members to be able to access," says Cindy. "The families in general
seem to have a very positive response to the service. We even have one family where
the grandparents, who live in Hawaii, can check in on their grandchild." |
